JWD Infologistics is expanding its business both domestically and across Asean in response to the government’s policy to make Thailand the regional transport and logistics hub. It is building warehouses for general goods and cold storage goods in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos, with an aggregate space of 6,000sq.m., and will enhance its service efficiency by adding product variety to meet more sophisticated demands from customers.
Mr Charvanin Bunditkitsada, Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer of JWD Infologistics PCL, or JWD, a leading fully integrated in-land logistics service provider, revealed the company’s responsiveness to the Thai government’s policy to position Thailand - which is located at the region’s centre and equipped with good infrastructure for road, rail, marine and air transport and has plans to build dual-track and high-speed rail networks that will lead to better connectivity to the neighbouring countries’ cargo transport systems - as Asean’s transport and logistics hub following the formation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).
Recognising the opportunity to grow its logistics business in Thailand and across Asean and become the region’s leading logistics firm, JWD has decided to increase its investment in the region, starting with the countries sharing their borders with Thailand. It has invested its capital in projects to build warehouses for general goods and cold chain goods with a total space of 6,490sq.m. in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos to cater to growing demands there from food retail businesses. The projects are expected to be completed in Q2/2016.
“Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos have great growth potential and growing demands for logistics and warehousing services. We have, therefore, decided to increase our presence there, employing our management know-hows, software and personnel to ensure efficiency in warehouse management and satisfaction of customers’ demands. We believe that these overseas expeditions will move us a step closer to leadership in Asean’s in-land logistics industry," he said.
The CEO added that domestically JWD is renovating its warehouse space in Laem Chabang port to add service variety, including building a 9,000sq.m. LCL consolidation hub (where shipments from small exporters are grouped together before being loaded on board the vessel), the commercial operation date of which is expected to fall in Q1/2016, and a 6,000sq.m. domestic distribution centre (where dangerous goods are stored and loaded on light trucks for delivery to destinations), the commercial operation date of which is expected to fall in Q2/2016.
The company has also acquired rubber tyred gantry (RTG) units, which will allow it to stack four to five containers in its warehouses and yards, the installation of which is expected to be completed in Q3/2015. They will enhance its competitiveness in providing in-land logistics services to customers and enable it to record sustainable growth figures for this year.
